VFS Global required: All short-term Sweden visas from Thailand go through VFS Global in Bangkok. Make sure to book a time (as of 2024, VFS made appointments mandatory). No direct submission at the embassy for visits, so don’t go without a VFS booking.
Invitation form (Swedish Migration Agency): Sweden provides a specific invitation form (#241011 “Invitation – Visiting a friend/relative”). Have your partner in Sweden fill this out and send it to you (original is not required, a scanned copy is fine). This form asks for details about your partner, your relationship, and financial support. Including it is highly recommended as it’s an official document. Along with it, include a personal letter from your partner if they want to add more personal message. Also attach a copy of your partner’s passport and personbevis (population register extract) showing their address.
Clear relationship evidence: The Swedish Embassy appreciates a clear narrative. Submit some photos (with captions on back or separate page explaining context) of you and your partner together. If you have chat logs, you can summarize them (like “we talk daily since 2020”). There’s no need to translate Thai messages, but provide context. Don’t overdo it – a few pages of evidence are enough. They mostly want to see you’ve met in person at least once if possible.
Financial and travel plan: Show about SEK 450 per day of stay (that’s roughly €40-45) in funds. If your partner sponsors, include their “Invitation” form’s financial pledge and their bank statement or payslip. Sweden might call it “assured subsistence” – basically, either you or sponsor must cover 450 SEK/day plus your flights. Present a simple travel plan (e.g., “Mostly staying in Stockholm with partner, plus a 3-day trip to Gothenburg, then returning home.”). This helps the visa officer understand your intent.
Return guarantees: Highlight your ties: a stable job (with letter in English), property, or family. The Swedish Embassy sometimes calls applicants for an interview, or even calls your employer to verify, so all info should be truthful and checkable. If you’ve traveled to Europe or other countries before and returned properly, mention that in your cover letter – it gives them confidence to approve.
