Visitor visa guide for 🇱🇻 Latvia

Latvia generally follows standard Schengen requirements but values clarity and consistency. Provide a simple itinerary and solid financial proof.

Additional tips for our Schengen checklist.

Represented by Hungary (via VFS): Latvia doesn’t have its own visa section in Bangkok; the Hungarian Embassy handles Latvian visas. You will apply at VFS Global (select Latvia, it will actually be processed by Hungary). Essentially, the process is the same as a Hungary visa submission.

Invitation & form: Include an invitation letter from your Latvian partner. In some cases, the Hungarian embassy might provide a specific format (or a TLScontact form as seen in some checklists), but a personal letter is typically fine. Have your partner mention your relationship, travel dates, and that they will host you. Add proof of relationship (photos, etc.).

Documents to focus on: Because another embassy is assessing (Hungary), make sure documents are very complete. Follow the Hungarian checklist: proof of employment, bank statements, travel insurance, flight bookings, day-by-day itinerary, etc., all must be provided. Any missing piece can delay things since it’s a cross-representation case.

Return ties & local contact: Show strong return ties (job, family in Thailand). It might also help to provide a local contact phone for your partner in Latvia, in case the embassy wants to verify anything through their counterpart in Latvia. Generally, if everything is clear, they won’t need to call. Visas for Latvia via Hungary have been known to be straightforward as long as you meet standard requirements.
