Visitor visa guide for 🇸🇮 Slovenia

Slovenia expects a clear purpose of travel and well supported accommodation and funding. If visiting a partner, keep relationship proof organized and chronological.

Additional tips for our Schengen checklist.

Represented by Austria (via VFS): In many countries, Austria handles Slovenia’s visas. Likely in Bangkok, you will apply for a Slovenian visa through the Austrian VFS. Confirm on the Austrian Embassy site or VFS, but expect that you’ll book an appointment with VFS Global under Austria, and the Austrian Embassy will process your Slovenian visa application.

Documents as per Austrian checklist: Use Austria’s checklist but adapt for Slovenia. For example, instead of an Austrian itinerary, provide your travel plan for Slovenia. An invitation letter from your Slovenian partner is crucial, stating that they invite you, with dates, their address, etc. Attach your partner’s Slovenian ID or passport. Slovenia doesn’t have special invitation forms for tourists – a personal letter is fine. If your partner is a foreign resident in Slovenia, include their residency proof.

Quick note on Schengen rules: Slovenia is a small Schengen state, so make it very clear it’s your main destination (e.g., “7 days in Slovenia, 3 days in Italy” if any other country). Austrian Embassy will not issue a visa if Slovenia isn’t convincingly the main destination. They might ask for proof like bookings in Slovenia or your partner’s address. So ensure your paperwork shows the bulk of time in Slovenia.

Financial & insurance: Austria (processing for Slovenia) is strict about travel insurance coverage and funds. Double-check your insurance policy meets requirements (EUR 30,000 coverage, etc.). Provide 3 months of bank statements; if your partner sponsors you, include their bank proof and a sponsorship note. The Austrians typically like to see that you have ~€100 per day (their general guideline) – it might be high for Slovenia, but since Austria is deciding, try to meet that if possible.

Return ties and presentation: With Austria reviewing, expect a precise approach. All documents should be translated (if in Thai) to English or German. Present them neatly. Show your employment letter, leave approval, and any property or family ties. The decision should be quick (often under 2 weeks). Couples have reported smooth approvals when everything is in order. So focus on clarity and completeness.
